Jersey City Shelter Event Update

As you may have read in my previous post, I am honored to be partnering with this incredible non-profit organization ‘Enchanted Makeovers‘ to facilitate a weekend retreat and shelter makeover for St. Joseph’s Home, which has facilities for homeless women and their children in Jersey City, NJ.

Our mission for this retreat is to inspire the women and children in the shelter, to give them hope, to help them see that they are beautiful from the inside-out.

About the Event
The theme of this retreat is called “The Journey: Discovering Our Inner Treasures”. We are going to provide the women and children with gift bags filled with journals, yoga mats, handmade jewelry, slippers, all kinds of unique items donated or sponsored by in-kind donations.

The Events will be held in St. Joseph’s auditorium:

Day 1…October 16th: Yoga Class, How to Journal, Mural Class & Folk Singer.

Day 2…October 17th: Facials, Hairdressers, Make-up Artists, Dinner & A Special Balloon Ceremony.

On day 1, we will teach the women how to journal, do yoga, and create special, inspirational artwork with the children. Mural artists will be painting a very meaningful wall depicting a journey filled with “hidden treasures” symbolic of the gifts each of us have within ourselves, even if we don’t always see them on first glance. The day will end with a song written specifically for the women and children at St. Joseph’s home.

On day 2, we are going to pamper the women. We will have a “spa-like” retreat set up in the auditorium for facials, make-up artists, and hair stylists, the women will have beautiful photographs taken, and then we will end the weekend retreat with a nice dinner at Michael Anthony’s restaurant. We will also release balloons with the ladies, sort of releasing the “limiting beliefs” and fears and negativity.

There will be 25 women from the shelter at the retreat. The weekend will be photographed by 3 renowned photographers and a video will be made as well.

We Still Need Your Help!!
Everything for the event is donated, and we’ve been so fortunate to receive many donations already!! Some of them include: slippers, pillowcases, “believe” notecard packs, yoga mats, journals, earrings, and food for the luncheon. Services have also been donated, such as make-up artists, hairdressers, a Folk singer, and speakers.

We are still in need of sponsors and donations for the 25 women and children, including:

* Monetary sponsorship for the dinner at Michael Anthony’s
* Any new or handmade gift to give to the women
* Handmade or retail necklaces or bracelets
* Handcrafted pillows, quilts, or artwork
* Anything inspirational – signs, pictures, etc.
* New or gently used children’s books
* Crayons and coloring books
* Inspirational tee shirts
* Anything that you would like to give, even if you have a service not listed here, but you think would be helpful to the women in any way. Everything is appreciated!

All sponsors and donors will be listed on the Enchanted Makeovers website and Facebook page, with links back to each sponsor/donor’s website.
